The year 1968 brought an end to one of the greatest activists of all time Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. but sparked life back into the oppressed community with the Olympic protest of Tommie Smith and John Carols.

WEBQUEST Dr. King was a great organizer. activist, and prominent leader during the African American civil rights movement. Some may doubt Dr. Kings ways, saying that he should have choose his family over his life of protest that ultimately ended his life. Dr. King was bringing down the corporate world trying to reform classism and the line between the poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich. With Chicago was his next place of focus his life was taken.
Dr. King's work and activism sparked life again during the 1968 Olympic games in Mexico City. Two Americans Tommie Smith and John Carols place first and second in the 200-meter race. Smith and Carols demonstrated a protest that shocked the world, ultimately banning them from with Olympics, stripping them of their medals, and getting them fired from their jobs.
